Benefits and Drawbacks Of Investing In A Pole For Your Home

Let's take a closer look at the benefits and drawbacks of investing in a pole for your home.

But first, let me tell you a bit about myself:

I started pole dancing in October 2013 when there were no nearby studios, and pole dance was quite unpopular in Germany. So, I got a home pole right away and started teaching myself. Honestly, I would never recommend that to anyone, but I didn't have a choice. There were a few tutorials on the net, but that's about it. Anyway, I had a big background in cheerleading, and being a physical therapist with a license and a fitness and health coach helped me a lot in being able to teach myself.

Anyway, I knew I really wanted to do pole dance and take it seriously. My personality has always been all or nothing. So once I got my pole, I was on it nonstop. I practiced sometimes 4-6 hours until I turned into a smurf full of lovely pole kisses.




My First Home Pole And My First Steps

My first pole was a used 50mm X-Pole Xpert that I got from Ebay-Kleinanzeigen, pretty cheap. I didn't know anything about pole dance, except for a friend who started teaching herself too and really wanted me to try it (thank you, Angela, by the way, you changed my life with that).

And yeah, I must say, it was totally worth buying this pole. This is how everything started, and the reason I own my pole studio now.


Things You Should Consider Buying A Pole For Your Home

But there are a couple of things you should consider when buying a pole for your home:

  1. AND THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT ONE: Ask yourself and answer truthfully, are you the type of person who can motivate yourself to really practice on the pole, make a date with yourself, and stick to it? Because when the pole is in your home, and the couch and the TV are really close to it, after the first excitement in the first couple of weeks, it will be hard to choose the pole over the couch and TV.

  2. Are my ceilings good enough for the pole? Most pole models for home are installed with pressure between ceiling and floor, and those require a sturdy ceiling, preferably cement. BUT, if you have an unsteady or vaulted ceiling, there are still some options you can do. A quick fix would be getting a stage pole.

  3. Do I have enough room for a pole? You should have at least enough room that when you grab the pole with one hand, you can easily work around it with a lengthened arm without hitting anything.

  4. What poles should I get? My favorite poles are from X-Pole Chrome and the European standard 45mm. I highly recommend investing in a high-quality pole that will not fall. Please don't buy any cheap poles from Amazon. Also, invest right away in a pole that also has a spinning function.
